Brown accepted the endorsement at the Harpoon Brewery following a tour given by Dan Kenary, president and co-founder of Harpoon Brewery, part of Brown’s “Jobs are Job One” tour around Massachusetts.
“The new health care taxes being proposed at the federal level top our list of concerns,” said Kenary. “We have been providing health insurance for all of our employees since we started the company in 1986. It angers us that Congress is planning to increase our taxes to pay for others who have not been providing coverage.”
The NFIB member designated to make the endorsement, Warren Hudson, owner of L.C. Anderson, Inc in Brighton, said Brown earned the organization’s endorsement due to strong positive feedback from NFIB members across Massachusetts. Brown has a 100 percent lifetime voting record from the NFIB.
“With high unemployment and big government tightening its regulatory grip on small businesses, Massachusetts needs a Senator who will work to encourage economic growth and limit government interference. That’s why small business has endorsed Scott Brown for the United States Senate,” said Hudson.
“We need a senator who believes competition in healthcare will reduce costs and result in real reform. We know that burdensome government health insurance mandates on an already-stressed small business sector can only lead to higher costs for small business owners and for the1.5 million people who work in small businesses in Massachusetts,” he added.
“Scott Brown is well-versed in the issues facing small business owners, having operated his own small law firm,” said Lisa Goeas, NFIB’s vice president. “He has also been a long-time supporter of NFIB’s priorities in the state legislature and earned a 100 percent NFIB lifetime record. With all the threats to the viability of small businesses, such as healthcare costs and the prospect of higher taxes, we need a leader in Washington who truly understands their needs.”
“In this upcoming election, if you want business as usual, with higher taxes, more spending and not having a voice in Washington, then vote for my opponent. But if I’m elected, I’ll fight to lower your taxes, keep more money in your pockets, and bring common sense back to Washington,” said Brown. “I am grateful for the endorsement of small businessmen and women because I understand they are the engine that powers job creation in this country.”
