Fake phone calls making the rounds?

Phone lines are burning up across the state today with political calls, and they are not all warmly received...or legit.

It's been funny to see how many of both my and Mrs. kennedyseat.com's friends have been complaining on Facebook about Pagliuca calls.  Those ones are legit, and based on the recorded message I got from Pagliuca last night (at one point Pags said, "Thank you for helping get Barack Obama elected President), I think we have the President to blame for selling his phone list.

On the not-so-legit front, I have had a couple of people email me today about calls purporting to be on behalf of Capuano.  Both readers said they received calls from someone with broken English, in which nothing is decipherable except the name "Mike Capuano," and the occasional dirty word.  I have been told these calls show up as "out of area" on caller ID.  Real Capuano calls show up as "Michael C" (or at least they do at my house - I got one last night).  So if you get a call from the Capuano camp make sure it correctly identifies them on the caller ID.

I don't have any tips for stopping the Pagliuca calls.

Pagliuca HQ is more than willing to remove individuals from the robocall list. I called in and was apologized to profusely, and they said they would gladly take me off the list. Haven't received a call since.

Not accusing the Coakley or Pagliuca campaigns of being behind the fake calls, but that'd be an incredibly dirty tactic if they did.

Of course its Coakley supporters. Pags is a mile behind so why would he bother. Coakley knows Caps is lurking.

Tiny Elvis- That's absolutely ridiculous- Do you have any proof before you accuse? There are plenty of people who actually dislike Capuano- and many from his own hood. Martha's folks are too busy doing real GOTV- She doesn't need to stoop low as you seem to be.

It sounds like somebody might have outsourced fake calling. As in somewhere in a foreign country there's a call center making these fake phone calls. That to me sounds more like a Pags move, but who knows.

Could be 'pags' because he has money or it could be Coakley because clearly capuano is the one who can beat her, and the polling is scaring the coakley crew. Both are possible and the likely scenerios.

Phony calls (no pun intended) are not cool. Also not cool to accuse any campaigns without proof. I doubt Capuano, Coakley or Pags would promote any such thing.

To be clear, I never insinuated any other campaign was behind these calls. We don't even know if they were negative.

Real GOTV? Like cancelling all of her canvasses this weekend due to the weather forecast?

Everyone of you who as posted thus far a moron. Coakley and Capuano are Mass pol hacks. Why these people (and everyone in the Mass State House Legislature) are voted into office is beyond comprehension. I'll be checking the ballot for "Pags" because he has actually held a real job and has tolerant social values.

Capuano has been the butt of several (possible) dirty campaign tricks so far, both reported on by (I think) the Globe.

During his announcement speech, the fire alarm at the Parker House was pulled. There was no fire.

At the press conference with the Pelosi endorsement, all of the lights went out ONLY in the room and hallway where the press conference was going to be held.

Coincidence? Maybe. But in the words of Elaine Benes, "Ya. A BIG coincidence."

It is too bad that politicians continue to exempt themselves from Do Not Call law.

StopPoliticalCalls.org is fighting for the privacy of the American voter.

1 - Creating a Political Do Not Call Registry
2 - Testifying in the US Senate about robo calls (Sen. Feinstein’s Robocall Privacy Act)
3 - Forcing states to enforce existing robo call laws (CA, MN, NJ, etc..)
4 - Getting politicians to take a do not robo call pledge (7 have)

Here is a quote from a member recently:

"I'm a shift worker, working variable shifts. I depend on my sleep to be able to do my job safely and efficiently. I'm a locomotive engineer. Imagine the disaster were I to fall asleep, operating a freight train carrying hazardous materials in your neighborhood, due to fatigue from being awoken in my middle of the night on a continuous basis during election season. Please stop.."
