Coakley snags endorsements from Capuano's backyard.

As the endorsement slugfest continues between Martha Coakley and Mike Capuano, the Attorney General mixed in a nice haymaker today by announcing the support of several Somerville politicians, including two former Mayors.

Former Somerville Mayor and current Southern Middlesex County Register of Deeds Eugene Brune, former Somerville Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay, current State Representative Carl Sciortino, and former State Senator Sal Albano announced today that they are endorsing Coakley,

“I am proud and humbled to receive the endorsement of these accomplished leaders who have spent decades working on behalf of the people of Somerville,” said Martha Coakley. “As Attorney General, I took swift action to help keep families in their homes during the foreclosure crisis and I cracked down online sexual predators that make the Internet a dangerous place for our children.  As Senator, I will work to reform our health care system, get our economy back on track, and keep communities like Somerville safe for all our families.”

“During my time as Mayor of Somerville, Martha Coakley was serving as Middlesex District Attorney, and she was always helpful to my administration and always there for the people of Somerville,” noted Dorothy Kelly Gay.  “I am proud to endorse Martha Coakley for United States Senate because she has demonstrated bold, principled leadership and cares deeply about our communities.  With Martha, what you see is what you get.  In Washington, Martha will be a champion for Somerville’s families and all Massachusetts’ families.”

For someone that has been involved in Somerville politics as long as Capuano has, there is always going to be a list of enemies.  Still, with less than two weeks to election day, having an announcement like this made in your backyard has to hurt a little.

Nothing like settling old scores in a completely ham-handed way!

Of course these washed up has-beens or will-never-bes now know where NOT to seek help in the coming years. Last time I checked, Cappy will have a lot of clout regardless of the outcome on 12/8. Seriously.

Senator,
You are correct about Somerville enemies but..........where do I start?

Gene Brune was Mayor of Somerville for the 10 years prior to Capuano and his largest accomplishment to date is turning in John Buonomo to his good friend Martha Coakley at the Probate office. Is there a school named after Brune? No, because he ran the city so far into the ground and left Capuano, who was elected Mayor over Brune's hand picked successor, who by the way, was the above mentioned John Buonomo. Brune left the city in such bad shape that it allowed Capuano so much room to grow. Plus, Brune is now 127 years old and does not know more than two people who live in the City anymore.

Ahhhh, Dorothy Kelly Gay, elected in a special election after Capuano was elected to Congress. She was in office less than one complete term before voters removed her from office. She was so brilliantly dreadful that she did not even nominate in the primary election, finishing third behind a guy who had lived in the City less than a year. She was a tragedy. However, she did succeed in giving her mensa husband a police badge so he could drive her around all day and flash it whenever it suited him. I suspect she is mad that Capuano didn't make her a national delegate for the 2000 presidential election.

Carl Sciortino is the state rep from Medford. Aside from being gay, he is best known for having his nomination papers "stolen" from his state house office last year. Like Alan Khazei's always mentions his father the doctor; Hot Carl always mentions his homosexuality. Did you know Carl is gay?

Now Cadillac/Cherokee Sal Albano was a State Senator from Somerville during the Wilson Administration. This may be hard to believe but Charlie Chisolm has backed more winning candidates in Somerville.

But what do all the above have in common? They have never supported Mike since he first came on the scene in the mid- 1980's. And Senator, with the exception of Sciortino (who is gay in case he hasn't already told you) are "former" officials. They each had thei butts whipped in elections in Somerville.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Ha. The funny thing is that Sciortino endorsed like a month ago.

Gene Brune suppoorted John Bouonomo for Mayor over Mike Capuano. Then Gene Brune supported John Oconnor for Congress over Mike Capuano. Mike won both seats. Keep it up Clean Gene. Mike Capuano will be 3 for 3 over you on december 8th.

Sal Albano. i had to look him up online to find out who he was...turns out he hasnt served in elective office in Somerville since 1990-that's 19 years- and appears to live out of state.

Dot Gay. Couldnt even nominate in her re-election effort...succeeded by current MAyor Joe curtatone who is supporting Capuano.

Sciotino is actually from Medford and he seems ok but he might want to stop hanging out with the other three.

When Martha stabbed the former mayor of North Adams in the back - the longest serving mayor in Massachusetts - by endorsing his opponent, she should her colors.

Every endorsement she get from former mayors from that point forwrd is touched by irony.

I suppose Martha Coakley would rather talk about endorsements than her less than 3 years in statewide office, and her performance handling the Father Geoghan case in 1995, and her performance answering questions about that case this week.

It's funny, whenever kennedyseat.com has news favorable to Coakley, its haymaker, whenever its favorable to anothe candidate, it's ironical.
