Coakley picks up more local, probably more valuable endorsements.

On a day that saw House Speaker Nancy Pelosi come to Boston to endorse Mike Capuano and Alan Khazei touting the endorsement of NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Democratic Senate candidate Martha Coakley kept things closer to home.

Ultimately, the endorsements she picked up today will probably help her a lot more than a nod from either Pelosi or Bloomberg (although they still can't match the Shue endorsement).   The incoming mayors of Fall River (William Flanagan - below, left) and Newton (Setti Warren - right) will endorse Coakley today at events in both of their communities. Coakley will also receive the endorsement of State Representative Ruth Balser of Newton, who lost to Warren in last week's municipal election.

“I am honored to receive the support of Mayor-elect Flanagan, Mayor-elect Warren, and Representative Balser,” Coakley said. “They understand the needs of the residents of their communities and of our Commonwealth. Our cities and towns need a partner in Washington who will fight to help them improve our schools, keep our streets safe, and maintain basic services for families. I’ve fought for them as Attorney General, and I’ll fight for them as Senator.”

So to recap the day's endorsements, Alan Khazei earned the support of a Yankees fan who barely won re-election after spending $100 million, Mike Capuano got the nod of a colleague with national approval ratings in the 30's...

...and Martha Coakley was endorsed by two incoming politicians fresh off campaigns in which they received a combined 22,000 Massachusetts votes, will have updated voter and phone lists, solid organizations, and the prospect of new patronage jobs come January.

Something tells me Coakley will have a big advantage in Newton and Fall River, although she could struggle to beat Capuano in San Francisco and Khazei in New York.

Wowww...find another reader that thinks I have been biased in FAVOR of Coakley. That's about the only thing I haven't been accused of.

I am not a Coakley suppporter, but you have to admit that the endorsements by actual MA residents, who have just won elections here, are going to be more relevant for this race than the endorsements of random celebrities (political or otherwise).
