Coakley campaign issues statement on Capuano remarks.

Corey Welford, the newest edition to the Coakley campaign team and a former spokesman for her AG predecessor Tom Reilly and DA successor Gerry Leone, issued the following statement:
“We are heartened to see that Congressman Capuano has reversed his position to follow Martha Coakley’s lead, and no longer will vote for health care legislation that further restricts a woman’s right to choose. As Martha has said, we can and must pass meaningful health care reform with a strong public option without compromising women’s access to reproductive health services. That is the kind of strong, principled leadership that she will bring to the United States Senate."
 More updates to come.

How proud we'll be to have a Senator who has the courage of her convictions! Brava Martha.

And the poor judgment to risk killing health care reform at the first step. yay!

Also - do you also hope that she has the same courage of her convictions on other things, like drugs? I for one am not looking forward to supporting policies that would keep our prisons full of non-violent drug offenders.

What are you talking about? How is this related in any way to passing a healthcare reform bill and protecting women's rights?
Martha Coakley stance has been that we can accomplish both. And putting "killing health care reform" on her shoulders is ridiculous.

I said that she would RISK killing health care reform, and that is exactly what her NO vote on HR 3962 would have done. Passing that bill with the Stupak Amendment in place at least gives health care reform a chance (and a good chance that Stupak will come out).

The drugs comment was about her convictions, which you say that you like. That is how she has stood on drugs as DA and AG.

Do you just want her convictions or women's health or on all issues?

With every statement, Martha demonstrates a total lack of understanding of what it takes to get things done for the people of Massachusetts.

This statement also indicates an inability to read plain English.

Michael Capuano has made it clear today that he is prepared to do the hard work with President Obama and his colleagues who serve with him in the Pro-Choice caucus to get Stupak/Pitts out of the final health care bill.

Martha would have given up on the first vote and worked to kill the bill in the house, ending any hope of meaningful healthcare reform for millions of americans.

There is a time to be principled and there is a time for hard work. Mike Capuano is a worker who will fight for meaningful health care to the very end. Martha would just have given up the fight last Saturday.

This is shameful.

I can't even fathom what would have happened had she been a deciding vote in this. Her misunderstanding of the process might have had this bill dead before it even got off of the ground.

Scary.
