Three days before we all get our fill of turkey, stuffing, and weird relatives, two of the candidates for Senate are continuing to load up on endorsements.
I already noted one that Capuano picked up earlier today, but that was only scraping the surface.
--Planned Parenthood: This afternoon, Martha Coakley earned the support of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, "an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization" that "exists to ensure that elected officials support policies and programs that help women and their families make responsible choices about family planning and reproductive health."
A Coakley campaign press release noted that "Coakley is a long-time champion for Planned Parenthood, and her record as a supporter of reproductive health care and freedom goes back decades...most recently opposing the restrictive Stupak-Pitts amendment."
“Martha Coakley will be a leader in the Senate,” said Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts President and CEO Dianne Luby, “She has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to protecting access to sexual health services. We are proud that the Planned Parenthood Action Fund has made this endorsement.”
Said Coakley, "I look forward to working with Planned Parenthood in Washington on the critical health priorities facing women, including access to affordable, quality healthcare and expanding access to affordable family planning and preventive care.”
--Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters: The Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters (MLEV) announced its endorsement of Mike Capuano, citing "his strong leadership on environmental issues that affect both the Commonwealth and the nation."
MLEV bills itself in a release as "the non-partisan political voice for the environment."
In a statement, the group's executive director Lora Wondolowski noted, “We are fortunate to have two candidates in the Senate race that are strong environmental advocates, Mike Capuano and Martha Coakley, and it was a very difficult choice between the two of them. But in the end, Congressman Capuano’s proven track record made the difference. We are at a critical juncture on issues like global warming and green energy and we need leaders like Mike in the Senate who will fight for our future.”
--Black Women for Obama for Change: Black Women for Obama for Change will announce their endorsement of Mike Capuano at a formal endorsement in Roxbury tomorrow. Several area elected officials who have endorsed Mike Capuano for Senate will also participate in the discussion, including State Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry, State Rep. Gloria Fox and State Rep. Marie St. Fleur.
