Capuano praises passage of House health care bill.

I got Scott Brown's thoughts on last night's health care bill (and Congressman Mike Capuano's vote in favor) about 30 minutes before I got the Congressman's thoughts on the bill.  It just so happened that I posted Brown's statement and then left the house for my Sunday football ritual.  But now that the Pats' victory is secure I can take some time to share Capuano's statement.

Here's what Caps had to say in a campaign press release:
“For many months I have been working to ensure that a robust public health care option is included in the House health care bill and I am pleased we were able to preserve that provision when it came time to cast a vote”, stated Congressman Capuano.
“Achieving real health care reform was one of the causes of Ted Kennedy’s life and I am humbled to have had the opportunity to help advance that cause with my vote tonight. So many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, worried about losing their jobs and concerned that health insurance may not be there for their families. Health care is a right and no one should have to worry about whether they can afford to see a doctor. With tonight’s vote, we have moved closer to the day when all Americans can put these worries behind them.”
The public health care option included in the House bill was modeled after an approach championed by the late Senator Ted Kennedy. “It is my sincere hope that the Senate will move quickly to take up the House bill. We have waited too long for health care reform,” stated Congressman Capuano.
In addition to the robust public health care option, the legislation recognizes the critical role that Community Health Centers play on the front lines of health care delivery by increasing funding for these important safety nets. “As co-founder and co-chair of the House Community Health Centers Caucus, I have been working for years to increase health center funding. They offer important primary and preventive care in our neighborhoods and they deserve additional funding,” stated Congressman Capuano.
The health of our economy is a chief concern for all, and this reform bill actually reduces the federal budget deficit by $30 billion over the first ten years of implementation.
“We’ve taken an important step toward achieving real health care reform with this House vote but we’re not done yet. I will continue advocating for a robust public health care option as the Senate continues to debate health care reform,” stated Congressman Capuano.

What? No mention of how women's civil rights were once again usurped. Years of struggle by women and pro-choice groups was traded in exchange for votes? Perhaps if we had more than 17% representation in the Senate women's rights might become a priority. Great article in Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/taylor-marsh/in-pelosis-house-64-democ_b_349769.html
"Right now every woman who values her civil rights should understand how the gay community feels. Democrats just sold us out too."
