Capuano betrays Red Sox fans - is this part of some pro-Yankees conspiracy?

Out on the campaign trail, Congressman Capuano has often pointed to his legislative record and work in Washington as the best evidence of the impact he could have in the Senate.  It's been a strong asset to his campaign, and one that his opponents can't really compete with.

The flip side, of course, is that some days he has to make difficult decisions and cast unpopular votes, which can always come back to haunt him. Today might be one of those days.

At 1:05 p.m., while his Senate opponents were campaigning in Massachusetts, Mike Capuano was down in Washington casting a vote that could make or break his candidacy:

He voted "yea" on a resolution congratulating the New York Yankees on winning the World Series.

The bipartisan measure passed overwhelmingly (386-17) so Capuano's "yea" vote was superfluous.   Congressman Delahunt voted "nay!"  Olver and Tsongas voted "present."  McGovern didn't vote at all.  The rest of the delegation (Frank, Lynch, Tierney, Markey, and Neal) all joined Capuano in his homage to the Evil Empire, but they are not running for the Senate!  They can afford to take unpopular votes.

Why would he do it? How could he betray his constituents like this?  Is this part of some broader pro-Yankee conspiracy?

Um...it's not, right?  I was completely kidding...but then I did a Google search for "Mike Capuano" and "Yankees" (seriously), and I turned up a very odd coincidence.

Remember the stink that was raised a couple of times about Capuano's ties to PMA Group?  The Globe billed PMA as "one of Washington’s most influential lobbying firms," which "disbanded earlier this year after its fund-raising activities came under the scrutiny of federal prosecutors."

Well, PMA Group's founder is Paul Magliocchetti, a former top aide to Capuano friend Congressman John Murtha. Paul has a daughter named Jennifer, who donated a total of $3000 to Capuano in 2007 and 2008.  On campaign finance documents, Jennifer has listed two occupations.  For most of her contributions, she listed her occupation as a consultant at PMA Group.

BUT! On both contributions to Capuano, she lists her occupation as...you guessed it...NY Yankees ticket sales! As it turns out, Jennifer is actually just a ticket sales pro for the Tampa Yankees, the Bronx Bombers' single A affiliate, but she is still part of the Yankees family.

I'm not sure what just happened, but I think I proved that Mike Capuano is beholden to the most despicable of special interests - the New York Yankees.  If the Congressman doesn't prevail on December 8, his involvement with the Evil Empire may very well be to blame.

PS - Why couldn't Chris Capuano have pitched for the Yankees at some point? His jersey would have been the ideal visual for this piece.
