Former U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate Gary Hart to endorse Alan Khazei.

Martha Coakley and Mike Capuano may be leading the pack when it comes to endorsements from labor groups and Massachusetts Congressmen and Congresswomen, but Alan Khazei is winning by a landslide in the little know "former U.S. Senators from other states" category.  Khazei was endorsed by former Senator Harris Wofford (D-Pennsylvania) back in September, and today announced the backing of former Colorado Senator and 1984 Democratic Presidential candidate Gary Hart.

Hart will apparently join Khazei on the campaign trail this week to discuss "global climate change as a national security issue. In a press release issued by Khazei's camp, Hart stated:
“Global climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. This is not just an environmental issue—it is a national security issue. As our climate changes across the globe, there will be droughts, deforestation, melting glaciers, rising sea levels and desertification. We need to take the lead on climate change legislation and clean energy production and that is why I am proud to support Alan Khazei for U.S. Senate. He refuses PAC and lobbyist money and offers new ideas with a fresh approach to Washington. Alan will be able to work with Senator Kerry to move climate legislation through the Congress without being beholden to the special interests—he will be beholden only to the citizens of Massachusetts."
Hart wrote about Khazei for HuffPo last week, saying, "For those of us who have the soul of the darkhorse, Khazei represents the same hope Barack Obama did in 2008. If you haven't heard about him now, you will very soon and, possibly, in a big and surprising way."

The Senate candidate and former Senator have a long relationship, dating back to Hart's 1984 campaign for the presidency when future City Year founder Khazei was fresh out of Harvard.

According to the press release, Khazei and Senator Hart will tour the Boston area before making a stop to discuss the issue of climate change as it relates to national security at the Fletcher School at Tufts University from 2:30p.m. - 3:30p.m.
