I hate Connecticut.

So I sat around all day waiting for some news to break on the Kennedy seat.  Right up until about 4 p.m. I sat by my computer and searched for any news on Lynch, Capuano, Card, Brown, Markey, Tierney, Burr, Vicki - ANYBODY.

Finally, with a friend's out-of-town wedding on the horizon, I jumped in the car for the drive through New England.  "It's September 11," I thought to myself during my painfully long drive.  "Everyone is being respectful and holding off until Saturday to break any news," I said aloud to my fellow drivers on the Mass Pike.  "Andy Card even said he was going to wait until at least Saturday to make a decision," I shouted while stuck in a Hartford traffic jam.  All was well with the world. Prospective candidates were all holding tight, and I would easily be able to get a jump on things when I got to my hotel.

Then I started to get a bad feeling.  Stopped for gas in Connecticut, just before I lost my 3G signal, I saw an email from Congressman Markey.  You have got to be kidding me.  Four hours, one wrong turn, two traffic jams, and one dead phone later, I learn that not only has Markey decided against a run, but ANDY friggin CARD is out too. What?!  I spent 2 hours yesterday concocting a brilliant theory on why he would even be considering a run! He chased Scott Brown and Christy Mihos out of the race! And two days later he is gone.

For all I know, Bob Burr has even created a website in the time it took me to cross four freaking states.

I guess Scott Brown is running again now, even though he already conceded he was not the best possible choice for his party. (Red Mass Group is reporting that Brown will officially announce tomorrow at 2 p.m. in front of the State House.)

This afternoon taught me two important lessons:

  1. Connecticut blows.
  2. I need an intern.
After nearly seven hours in the car, I can't fully digest all of tonight's news (or maybe it's the highway fast food).  I will check back in tomorrow with thoughts on what all of this means for Lynch, Capuano, Coakley, Brown, and of course, Bob Burr.

For now, I need to find the bar in this hotel...

P.S. - thanks to all the readers who emailed in about Markey and Card.
