Attorney General Martha Coakley has picked up the endorsements of Pipefitters’ Association Local 537 and Utility Workers Union of America Local 369. Now, I am not a huge believer in the power of endorsements (The Fix has a great hierarchy of endorsements for national elections that resonates to a certain extent in a Senate election like this - and ironically was written after Ted Kennedy endorsed President Obama), but I do think they are important if they represent something larger.
The fact that Coakley was so quick to pick up two labor union endorsements, coming on the heels of Monday's Labor Day breakfast where she had a strong showing of volunteers, makes one wonder if Congressman Stephen Lynch is facing a bit of a labor revolution.
Lynch, a former Ironworker Union President, was barred from speaking at Monday's breakfast due to his lack of support for national health care reform. Two union strikes against him in one week cannot be a good sign, especially given how important labor backing would be to his candidacy.
It will be interesting to see how this develops.
Coakley picks up two union endorsements - bad omen for Lynch?
